From the Households We Have Helped

What People Say After the Folder Is Sorted and the Form Is Filed

We do not put glowing words on this page unless they reflect something that actually happened. The accounts below are from real engagements — some neat and tidy, some a bit of a journey.

My mother had not touched her document drawer in about four years. There was everything in there — expired documents, utility bills from 2018, warranty cards for appliances she no longer owns. The assistant spent the full two hours with her, categorised everything methodically, and left behind a folder system that even I can navigate. The one-page index is pinned to the inside of the drawer. It sounds like a small thing, but it has saved a lot of searching since.

My father-in-law is 74 and very resistant to using apps and portals on his own, but he also does not want to feel like a burden on the family every time something needs doing online. Ahmad from Merbau Table has been visiting him once a week for three months now. He is not rushing Bapa, and Bapa seems genuinely comfortable with the routine. The family note after each session is a nice touch — we know what was covered without having to call and ask.

We relocated from Penang with two school-age children and had no idea where to start — school registration, Rapid KL card, local council account, neighbourhood association. Wei Ling from Merbau Table came with us to four different counters over the first six weeks and explained the process at each one. The neighbourhood handbook she prepared was genuinely useful, not just a list of phone numbers. It had actual explanations of how things worked locally.

I am a single mother and I had been putting off sorting the house documents for over a year — always something more pressing. The visit felt less like a service appointment and more like having a calm, organised friend come over. She did not make me feel judged for the state of the pile. The system she set up is simple enough that my thirteen-year-old can also find things in it, which was honestly the most useful part.

My grandmother agreed to try the Companion Desk after her neighbour recommended it. She is sharp but gets anxious about anything online, particularly since she got a scam call last year. The assistant — same person every month — goes through her inbox with her, flags what is real and what is not, and has helped her complete the MySejahtera updates she had been avoiding. My grandmother now calls it her "desk day". That tells you something.

We came from Kelantan and the Klang Valley felt overwhelming at first. The twelve-week programme gave us a real structure. We were not just handed a list and told to figure it out — someone actually came with us. The community group introductions at the end connected us to a neighbourhood parent network that we still meet with monthly. I think that last part was the most valuable thing we did not know we needed.

Three Engagements, in More Detail

Case Study · Paperwork Visit

The Post-Renovation Pile

Household: Family of four, SS2, Petaling Jaya

Duration: One 2-hour visit

Fee: RM 520

The Situation

After a home renovation, the family had a large cardboard box containing documents from the old filing system mixed in with contractor receipts, warranty cards for new appliances, and old utility bills. Nothing was in order and they did not know what to keep.

What We Did

Sorted the full box into categories, discarded duplicates and clearly outdated items with the family's agreement, set up a six-folder system by document type, and produced a one-page index. Contractor receipts were filed separately in a project envelope with the renovation timeline noted on the outside.

The Outcome

The family had a clear, usable filing system within two hours. Three months later, the mother contacted us to say she had found the appliance warranty for a broken cooker hob in under a minute — saving a replacement purchase.

Managing After a Spouse's Passing

Client: Widowed woman, 69, Damansara Jaya

Duration: 5 months (ongoing)

Fee: RM 2,150/month

The Situation

After her husband passed, a 69-year-old woman found herself managing household accounts, utility renewals, and health appointments alone for the first time. Her adult children lived interstate and were concerned but unable to visit frequently.

What We Did

Monthly sessions covered different priorities — one month focused on transferring utility accounts into her name, another on setting up auto-payment for her broadband. Family update notes kept her daughter in Johor Bahru informed without requiring daily calls.

The Outcome

Five months in, the client now manages most routine tasks independently and uses the monthly sessions for new situations that arise. Her daughter described the arrangement as giving her "a way to help from far away without feeling helpless".

A Family from Sabah, Starting Over

Household: Couple + 1 child, relocated from Kota Kinabalu

Duration: 12-week programme

Fee: RM 4,350

The Situation

A family from Kota Kinabalu relocated to Petaling Jaya for a new job posting. They had no existing contacts in the Klang Valley, were unfamiliar with the local council processes, and needed to enrol their child in primary school within a fixed window.

What We Did

The school enrolment visit was prioritised in week one. Subsequent accompanied visits covered the DBPJ counter for a parking season pass, the Rapid KL transit office, and the community library registration. The neighbourhood handbook was customised for the Sri Damansara area specifically.

The Outcome

By week ten the family had completed all priority registrations, the child was settled in school, and the parents had been introduced to a Sabahan community group active in Petaling Jaya — which they described as unexpectedly important for their sense of belonging.
